SecondLife Article in NYT
Just in time for our upcoming visit by Dr. Shamp in class to talk about SecondLife, the New York Times published an article about the online world. Please read this article before class on Tuesday.
Isn't weird that even in a virtual world people are still restricted by the propaganda and images of this one.
Here we have a girl that could make herself the first woman ruler of the Second life, or make herself a scientist that cures diseases like cancer, but instead she makes herself a gorgeous woman with a perfect body and beautiful hair. She doesn't even have a blemish on her face and she creates new propaganda for the virtual world. What clothes are cool or not cool.
It is interesting that out of all the things we could create in a second life, people seem to be limited by this one.
We are an undergraduate Social Media seminar class with Dr. Kaye Sweetser at the University of Georgia. We blog. We podcast. Some of us have a Second Life. We rule.
